1957 Martin D-28 SN. 155027

Pick of the litter...superb example of a 50s D-28. Perfect neck angle (likely reset at some time in the past), no top or back cracks, 100% original inside and out. The guitar has been well cared-for over its 65 years, showing only minor finish dings and scrapes here and there that are less than one typically sees on a guitar of this age (see pics). Never had the heel drilled for a strap button (gotta love that!). The solid Brazilian rosewood back and sides are that beautiful brick red color and pin-straight quartered grain that defined the Martin aesthetic for much of the 20th century. I believe the top to be European/German spruce, which Martin used at times during the 50s and 60s. All of the bracing is original and intact. There are two short hairline side cracks that have been professionally repaired at some point in the past (both about 1 1/2" in length). The bridge plate is original, the pin holes have been professionally repaired (plugged and redrilled). Those are the only repairs that have been done (other than the aforementioned neck reset, which is top notch). The frets show very light wear in the first position but nothing that would require any intervention at this time. The neck is straight under tension and the top flat. The action is set at 7/64" at the low E and 5/64" at the high E with plenty of saddle height for adjustment in the future. The guitar has superb tone and projection whether flat picked or fingerpicked, equally responsive to a light touch or aggressive attack, with the headroom to retain its articulate nature under a heavy flat pick attack. Intonation is good all over the neck. Check out the sound file. Comes with period case, could be original though I'm not 100% certain on that.
