Description

McPherson Guitars has completely re-engineered the acoustic guitar with amazing results. Their unique offset sound hole and cantilevered nck joint significantly improve the sound board's ability to vibrate, thereby improving the guitar's output and tone.

Offered here is one of McPherson's Camrielle series guitars, a CMG 3.5 R/E S/E. This is McPherson's smallest model. Most of it's body dimensions are the same as you would find on a 000/OM size guitar, although the depth of the body on this guitar narrows down to 3.5" at the lower bout. Camrielle series guitars also get an elegant Florentine cutaway for easy access to the upper frets. This guitar has a top made of Engleman Spruce and the back and sides are East Indian Rosewood. The body and neck are bound with Curly Koa. The 25.5" scale length neck is made of Mahogany with a low profile soft V-shape. The bound Ebony fretboard has a 14" radius and a 1.75" bone nut. The Ebony bridge comes with three (3) bone saddles to accommodate various string heights and playing styles. The string spacing at the bridge is 2-3/16". The tuners are gold Waverly open backs. The guitar is factory-equipped with L.R. Baggs electronics including a built-in pre-amp and discrete sound hole mounted volume control.

McPherson guitars are extremely well made instruments. Their sleek neck shape and superb setup makes for an acoustic that plays as easily as most electric guitars. With the "medium" saddle currently installed, this guitar has 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low side and 4/64" on the high side. The cantilevered neck adds a bit of weight to the guitar, but the design is inherently more stable and far more sturdy than your typical acoustic. This example weighs just 5 pounds, 1 ounce. The slim body depth, the Florentine cutaway and the guitars's superb balance make for very comfortable playing.

The output of this guitar is big and the tone incredibly well balanced and articulate. It is a responsive guitar too, one that you can easily play fingerstyle or dig into with a flat pick. The quality electronics make this a guitar that is perfect for the stage and/or recording.

While built in 2013, this beautiful guitar shows little to no evidence of play. In fact, I can't find a mark on it, but let's just call it near mint in case I've missed something microscopic. The frets too show no observable wear. It comes to you in it's similarly mint McPherson/Ameritage case equipped for humidification along with the foam sound hole foam, the alternate bone saddles and all the other paperwork and accessories.

A new example of this instrument goes for $10K and a couple of examples are currently being offered for sale by other retailers at this lofty price. Get this mint/near mint 2013 beauty and save yourself several thousand dollars. The list of artists of various music genres who are playing McPherson guitars these days is impressive. Try one and see why. You will be very glad you did!
