An Exciting New Realm of Beautifully Simplistic, Tweed-Based Performance
Back in the heyday of the '60s San Francisco / Bay Area Music Scene, amp repairman, Randall Smith, began building his own amplifiers inspired by an appreciation for the ‘50s Tweed circuits developed by Leo Fender. The organic sounding voice, powerful controls and the dynamics of these amps, the way they smoothly transitioned from clean to clip and back again was magical, but his experience repairing and modifying these amps for notable guitarists had proven there was room still for improvements.
Randy’s venture, the early tweed-inspired Boogie® amp, kicked things off for boutique guitar amplification. Now, with five decades of amp design & crafting, MESA returns to pay homage and bring forward an exciting new realm of tweed-based performance based around the tone & characteristics of 6V6 power tubes. The all-tube California Tweed™ is a beautifully simplistic design and a truly an inspired masterpiece. Four 6V6 Power Tubes, a single 12AT7 plus five 12AX7 preamp tubes play their key role in its golden Americana tone. MESA’s patented Incremental Multi-Watt™ Power Amp, featuring Duo-Class™ and Dyna-Watt™ technologies, provides five power, two operating-classes and three wiring options via a single 5-Way Power Switch!
The California Tweed's front panel is all about single channel simplicity. Here you find Normal & Low (Cleaner) Inputs, Gain, Treble, Mid, Bass, Presence, Reverb & Master Controls. MESA's legendary vintage all-tube, long-tank, spring reverb with external reverb switching jack (Reverb Footswitch & Cable Sold Separately) and a fully buffered, tube-driven series FX loop round out the features. The California Tweed takes us back to what initially attracted players to Boogie® amps and adds to it elements that have grown such a loyal fan base. A perfect amp to celebrate 50 years of Boogie® and a must for any serious MESA collector!
