Description

This is one of the most unusual solidbody electric guitars we’ve ever had, a Moonstone Eagle, made by Steve Helgeson in California in 1982. Some sources say there were only twelve of these ever made, some say ten, but regardless, you’re not likely to encounter another, for sale or otherwise, anywhere. The Moonstone name is a highly respected one; these are totally hand-built and hand-carved from the rarest of highly-figured woods. This one’s body is of burled and bird’s-eye maple, or at least it appears to me to be maple, might be a considerably more exotic wood; the carving of all the eagle feathers and other components is exquisite. The neck is of flamed maple and gorgeous pieces of it at that; it also has three center laminates for superior strength. The fingerboard has mother-of-pearl eagle inlays, with all their feathers engraved. All of the hardware is gold-plated including the Schaller tuners with ebony buttons, fine-tuner bridge, and control knobs that have what appear to be blue gemstones, possibly moonstones, set on top of each. The pickups are active Bartolini humbuckers with push-pull boost; there is a partial waxy coating on the mounting rings which I elected to leave as is. The ebony truss rod cover, which matches the ebony fingerboard, has the initials “JR" inlaid into it, those of the original owner, Johnny Redwood, from whose estate we got the guitar. There you have it, an extremely rare opportunity to own an extremely rare, uiltra-high class, iconic guitar from the peak era of these, not likely to appear again. This guitar comes with its original, un-filled out warranty card and original brochures from the builder, and original case of course. $5995 w/ohsc
