This "Ventures" 1965 Mosrite Mark I was built in California. Named for the band that was one of the most popular instrumental bands of all time, the Ventures model guitar was first introduced in 1963. The guitar has a solid alder body with a contoured top and is finished in a striking pacific blue color. The one piece maple neck has a bound slab rosewood fretboard with 22 frets plus a zero fret. There are 15 tiny dot inlays on the 25" scale fretboard. The nut width is 1 9/16". Engraved on the fretboard at the 22nd fret is the serial number, 1423. Stamped on the heel of the neck is the date Nov 10 1965 along with the number 0027 and in pencil the initials BC along with what appears to be the letters DOC written in red. The large headstock with the unique scalloped top edge has a large M, Mosrite of California and the Ventures Model in black lettering. The original single coil pickups include a slant mounted neck pickup and a straight mounted bridge pickups both with black covers. Mosrite of California and an M are embossed on the top of both pickups. Both original pot codes are 134-6533 which indicate they were made the 33rd week of 1965 by Centra Lab. The tone and volume knobs are plastic reflective hat knobs with the letter M on top. On the upper right bout is a three way toggle switch. Other features include a seven screw three ply white pickguard, two strap buttons, Kluson deluxe tuning keys with metal buttons, a top output jack mounted on the pickguard, a Mosrite bridge with six adjustable saddles, and a chrome "Mosely" vibrato tailpiece. There is some visible wear on the back of the neck from being leaned against an amp. The body has a variety of dings mostly on the back treble side edge, some buckle rash, weather checking primarily on the back of the guitar, and some paint flaking on the body next to the neck pocket. Overall for its age this guitar is in good condition. The only non original parts we have spotted are the new spring in the Mosely vibrato and a replaced bushing on the right side of the tailpiece. Frets show only minor wear and have lots of life remaining. It has a comfortable, slim, D shaped neck with low action with a distinctive top end tone that cuts through. That famous Mosrite tone rings crystal clear. This Ventures Mosrite is comfortable, light weight and well balanced. It comes with the original brown faux gator hard shell rectangular case with leather end trim, plush red interior, and a new leather handle. A local radio station sticker has been attached on the bottom.
