Description

Just in on consignment from one of our best customers is the gorgeous Nik Huber Orca '59 Korina built in 2014. If you are a fan of ultra-high-quality LP style guitars (and who isn't) please read on....

The Orca '59 is a German-built instrument that has a slightly longer string scale than the Les Paul model it is fashioned after. While typically a Mahogany-based instrument, this very special Orca '59 has been bestowed with a body and neck which are both made of solid Korina (White Limba). While difficult for luthiers to work with, Korina is a lighter wood that many feel is more responsive and has a sweeter midrange than Mahogany making it a perfect tonewood for guitars. The Korina body is topped with flamed Eastern Curly Maple. This solid body guitar's total weight is just 7.6 pounds (7 pounds, 10 ounces).

The Faded Sunburst finish is a semi-gloss nitro lacquer which gives the guitar an aged look and feel. No pore filler is used on the Korina body for improved resonance and a vintage feel. The neck has a killer 50's round shape, this one with depth measurements of .930" at the first fret and 1.01" at the twelfth fret. The 25" scale length Brazilian Rosewood fretboard has a 10"-14" radius with extra hard medium jumbo frets and a 1.67" bone nut. T The pickup covers, Gotoh Kluson-style tuners, the Tone Pros AVR-2 bridge and tailpiece and even the strap lock hardware is all aged Nickel. The electronics include superb German-made Haussel humbuckers, 2 volume controls, 2 tone controls (with coil split on the neck pickup tone control) and three-way switch.

The feel, playability and tone of this marvelous Orca '59 is simply marvelous. We've had several Orcas in stock in the past, but this Korina beauty is just over-the-top amazing. It is super resonant and it rings like a bell. It has the bite you expect from an LP-style guitar, but with a midrange chime that you don't get from a Gibson. And just check out the little details like the flamed Maple neck binding and the wood veneer rear cavity covers. The details matter!

Nik Huber lightly ages the finish and hardware to give his guitars a vintage look and feel. Upon extremely close inspection, you will find a bit of buckle rash on the back. However, the very light color of the White Limba and the texture of the open-pore finish Nik uses renders these imperfections nearly invisible, even close up. Other than this, you will find little evidence of wear on this guitar and the frets are in superb condition.

A new example of this guitar in Mahogany will cost you close to $10K. However, this lightly played and far more rare Korina-based Orca '59 can be yours for thousands less. It comes with it's original case, the certificate of authenticity and accessories.

The Orca '59 is easily one of the finest LP-style guitars that I've had the pleasure to play. This unique Korina example is even better. Make it yours!
