1998 Ovation MM68 Cherry Sunburst
I walked by not one, but two John Page-era Custom Shop Strats after spying this mandolin in the corner of Emille's booth at the Dallas Guitar Show. I absolutely love odd Ovation guitars and truth be told, I wasn't aware that they even made mandolins, so when I spotted this little beauty, I was immediately smitten and it was for sure coming home to the Elk Cave with me.
This mandolin is pretty danged fun to play and big fingers or not, I had more than one ball trying to figure out my best Irish-sounding jigs. Now, I play the mandolin about like I play guitar: more practice is definitely needed. That said, one tends to throw caution to the wind when they're having fun, so I spent all the time I wanted to with this cool little baby, schedule and dirty looks be damned.
This mando is very clean, having only a light area of pick marks on the front and a finish check on each end of the bridge making it look like a smile. The frets have eons of life left and the instrument has been detailed and a new battery installed.
