Summary: Paul started this business in 1985 in the attic of an old building in downtown Annapolis, MD. He began building these guitars known as the PRS “Custom” and they caught people’s attention pretty quickly. Since Paul started out in that old attic, our company’s mission has been about continuous improvement and avoiding the sacrifice of quality whenever possible. Each milestone anniversary year we pay homage to this fact by introducing a new version of Paul’s old “PRS Custom” - the guitar that started it all.
Body: Solid body electric guitar with a mahogany body & a flame maple cap.
Neck: Mahogany neck with a rosewood fretboard & a unique “Birds in Flight” inlay pattern. This guitar has 24 frets, a scale length of 25” with a nut width of 1 9/16”.
Pickups/Hardware: The 30th Anniversary Custom 24 features the PRS 85/15 uncovered pickups - designed personally by Paul Reed Smith. Paul’s idea was to design a new pickup with remarkable clarity and an extended range (bass & treble) perfect for modern applications. It nods toward PRS traditional pickups while keeping an eye on innovation. This guitar features a gold/nickel hardware package and a unique “Birds in Flight” inlay pattern on the neck. This guitar includes the “30th Anniversary” truss rod cover. This instrument has one volume knob, one tone knob & a five-way selector switch.
Cosmetics: This instrument is in great condition and it has been well-loved and played during its short lifespan. This guitar does have some pick scratches on the top and there is some visible wear on the back including a few small dings & some light buckle scratching – you would have to hold this guitar in your hands to find these imperfections because these marks do not show up well in photos. There is one notable place on the side of the guitar where the lacquer is chipped and the wood is bare (see photos). The neck pocket on this guitar also shows lacquer wear
Playability: This PRS is very easy to play – we set this baby up with 10’s but it plays like it has 9’s on it! The action is low & the guitar plays with no buzzing or dead spots. The frets are in great shape & they have a ton of life left in them.
