Description

This is a rare Kay built Recording King, flat top model with a slightly arched back. This is a really cool restoration project for someone who appreciates these 1930's and early 1940's flat tops.
There are no factory stamp markings on it. Probably late 1930's or Early 1940's. Nice laminated flamed maple back & sides, with a great 5 piece Birdseye maple figured neck. Lateral bracing with original brass frets in good shape. 17" width makes this a rare boomer of a model. Needs a nut, tuners, replacement bridge, and two top cracks repaired. Top has what looks like brushed on shellac, but back, sides & neck are untouched. Three screw holes from a trapeze tailpiece at one point. The last picture in this add is NOT of this guitar, but it shows the correct bridge for reference. These guitars were made in very small quantities and finding information on them is not easy. Most likely Kay built for Montgomery Wards. Nut width is 1.66 Neck depth at the 1st fret: .98, 7th fret 1.11 9th fret 1.14" Body depth at the bass bout 4.13". Distance from the nut to the 12th fret 12 7/8th inch. No case. This is a project guitar and is sold "as is" Any guitar this age will need substantial work. See pics for details.
