Description

Offered is this Ronin Mirari built in 2014. I've had a couple of these previously and was quite impressed and both sold quickly. If you get the chance, read Dave Hunter's review of the Mirari in Guitar Player Magazine from 2014, this is one very cool guitar!

The Mirari's body is made from a batch of very old reclaimed Redwood. It is very light and extremely resonant. The total weight of this guitar is just 7 pounds. The body has a very thin finish of un-catalyzed nitrocellulous lacquer. The neck is made of Honduran Mahogany and is hand-shaped. It feels fabulous, like a very fine piece of antique furniture. The neck carve on this guitar is C-shaped with depth measurements of .88" at the 1st fret and .94" at the 12th. The fretboard is made from very high quality Rosewood with clay dot markers. This fretboard has a 7.25" to 9.5" compound radius which makes for easy chording near the nut and easy bending further up the neck. The nut is 1-5/8" wide and made of unbleached bone and the frets are medium/jumbos.

In addition to it's fine tonewoods, it is the electronics which give the Mirari it's unique character. This guitar is bestowed with a matched set of Ronin's own Foilbucker pickups. These pickups are built in-house and are designed to reproduce the tone of vintage DeArmond units. These pickups give the Mirari a tone like nothing I've played in quite a while. You can tell you are playing a humbucker when you crank them up; they have a great overdriven sound and don't get muddy. At lower volumes these pickups give the Mirari an airy clarity and chime. I'm generally a neck pickup player, but the fat richness of these Foilbuckers allows me to use and enjoy both pickups and all three switch positions. The controls include a volume control for each pickup, a master tone control and a three-way switch. You will love the sounds this guitar can produce!

The overall feel of this guitar makes me think of a very light, resonant and particularly well setup vintage instrument. I particularly love the feel of the hand-carved Mahogany neck. This guitar seems to plays itself. With it's fine Mannmade trem bridge and Hipshot tuners, the tuning stability is superb. The rich tone of these relatively unique pickups is just icing on the cake. Check out the brief sound sample provided to hear for yourself.

This guitar was heavily aged at the factory (think Fender heavy relic) which lend to it's vintage vibe. Be it from the factory or from play, it shows it's share of cosmetic flaws (see photos) it has a well-played look and feel, but nothing that affects it's playabilty or tone and the frets remain in excellent condition. It comes in it's original Reunion Blues soft/hard case along with the drop-in trem arm and the hand written spec certificate.

These guitars are now selling for around $5K new, if you can find one and I understand the waiting list is long. If you are looking for a very high-quality electric and want something just a little different, this superb previously-owned Ronin Mirari may be just what the doctor ordered. A very unique and highly desirable electric indeed!
