When it comes to making instruments as special as a baritone guitar, and as gorgeously done, no one can match Santa Cruz. This 12-fret Dreadnaught, built along the lines of Martin's original 12-fret Dreadnaught from 1917, is just gorgeous, and built to the very highest standards. It is tuned, from 1st string through 6th, B F# D A E B for a beautiful lower end range. It uses the same left-hand chord fingerings we all know but it gives you actual chords in the next lower register. For example, making the lefthand fingering we know for an “A” chord actually gives you an “E” chord but way below tonally, and so on. The transposition comes easily, the music coming forth is exquisite.
The back and sides of this Santa Cruz Model D are of the very highest grade flamed Hawaiian Koa, the top of tightly-grained Sitka spruce. Genuine mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and it has gold-plated German Mini-Schaller tuning machines. Nothing but the very best for this Santa Cruz. It came to me from my old friend John Sebastian, who entrusted me with finding new homes for some of the instruments he has acquired over the decades. It's easy to just take ‘em all home when you've had a career like John has starting in the 1960s, on the road as leader of The Lovin’ Spoonful, followed by some solo gigs and some with a few friends. This Santa Cruz is in most excellent condition with only the tiniest nick in the finish here and there, and we have gone over it in our own shop for perfect setup. It is strung with an .013-.056 set and comes with a few spare .014-.059 sets. Do You Believe In Magic? Here it is for $4995 w/ohsc
