Description

Summary: Released as a Bicentennial model, the Eagle bass resembles a Precision bass, but with a narrower Jazz bass style neck and a large Eagle ornately carved into the top of the dark-stained body. Made in Japan during the adventurous heyday of Japanese luthiery, this is an extremely rare and super cool bass; it would be hard to find another instrument that more fully expresses the spirit of (19)76.

Body: Two-piece carved solid wood Precision bass style body. Dark wood stain.

Neck: Maple with laminated maple board. Black dot fret markers. Carved headstock veneer. 34” scale.

Pickups/hardware: Single Precision bass style pickup. Adjustable bridge with chrome cover. Volume and tone controls with Tele style chrome knurled knobs. Chrome “Univox”-branded open gear tuners. Three-ply black pickguard and black finger rest.

Cosmetics: This guitar is in very good condition. The stained, unlacquered finish has held up well with some small dings, scratches, buckle worm and fading from normal play wear. The neck has a few dings but overall the instrument is very clean. The highly detailed carving is intact, buffed to a light gloss from playing, and looks fantastic. Rock it out or hang it over your fireplace whilst you recline on your shag rug; either way, it’s a statement piece and a well-preserved document of its groovy time.

Playability: The action is low and the neck plays easily with no buzz or dead spots. The Jazz style neck makes for easy, fast playability, while the Precision style pickup gives low end thump and authority. A best of both worlds situation. And then there’s that eagle…
