Description

Summary: This rare short scale (22 1/4") instrument was produced by Valco in Chicago, who produced the famed fiberglass "Res-O-Glass" instruments under the Supro and National brand names. The "Airline" name was exclusive to the Montgomery Ward catalog. This is a genuine, USA-made guitar with two powerful Supro single coil pickups.

Body: Res-O-Glass (fiberglass) in red with white rubber seal.

Neck: Short scale (22 ¼” scale) neck in red finish. Rosewood fretboard with dot inlays. Bone nut. Square headstock, painted red, with white raised "Airline" badge.

Electronics/Hardware: Two single-coil pickups in chrome cases. Rosewood bridge. Top-loading tail-piece with chrome cover. Individual pickup on-off switches with dedicated volume and tone controls. Electronics mounted to white pickguard. Kluson Deluxe three-on-strip tuners.

Cosmetics: This is one of the coolest looking guitars in the shop. With its futuristic style and hot rod color scheme, it’s a hip example of a high point in American design. The body is in great shape, with no cracks in the fiberglass or rubber seal. There are minor blemishes and light scratches on the body and neck, and the typical light wear you see at the top of the headstock. There are some dark marks on the rubber seal, the pickguard has yellowed slightly and the painted markers on the knobs have worn off in spots. All of this is cosmetic and adds to the authentic mojo of the instrument.

Playability: This little guitar is big fun to play. The two single-coils are hot and punchy and the short neck is fast and makes chords and runs easy to play.

Weight: 5 lbs, 12 oz.

Case: This guitar does not come with a case.
