1954 Fender Telecaster. This original finish guitar oozes with mojo. It has all the wear and discoloration so sought after today, with the best kind of patina that exists — the kind that takes nearly 70 years to develop.
Despite having lived so long and having been played so much, this guitar retains its original parts. Unlike so many other Telecasters of this era, nobody saw a reason to change the pickups or pots, route the body, or change the tuners. For that matter, nobody saw a need to replace the frets, and surprisingly, they still have enough meat on them to make this Black Guard a joy to play. It is set up professionally, and ready for the studio or stage.
To be clear, this guitar features original finish, neck decal, tuners, frets, pickups, black guard, pots, knobs, switch, case, and even the bridge cover! The serial number is 45XX. Both body and neck date are 4/54. This is a feather weight Tele at just 6.3 lbs. The big neck features a slight hint of "V", and measures .908" at 1st fret and .990" at 12th fret. The neck pickup measures 5.5K Ohms, while the bridge pickup checks in at 5.8K Ohms.
The original '54 "Poodle" case has clearly been painted brown. It may have been re-covered sometime and then subsequently repainted an appropriate brown. But it is structurally sound, and the interior red plush lining is in good shape without mildew smell.
You would be hard pressed to find a Black Guard that looks cooler, plays more smoothly, or sounds better than this example. Don't miss it!
