When one ventures deep into the midsection of Alabama on a hot Thursday afternoon, you never know what you might find. A few weeks back, I ambled into a small town music shop and there, hanging between a Japanese Jazz bass and an Epiphone Zakk Wylde was this gorgeous ES-225. To me, it was the immediate and obvious star of the entire wall. Vintage Tobacco Sunburst will do that to you and I then knew this guitar was the one I was destined to discover...

I looked it over, played it and made the arrangement to buy it. Now, here came the Mike Tyson to the mouth- there was no case. Nope, it was brought in without a case and rather than attempt to stuff this old girl into a gigbag, I wrapped it in a blanket, seatbelted it into the passenger seat, and continued my journey through the Deep South.

Having gotten this 67-year-old lady home, here's where we are today; It plays effortlessly and the action is nice and low. The P-90 is full, throaty and lends itself more to a warm Jazz tone than an all-out, angry Rock snarl. The overall condition of the guitar is very good and this one has not been mercilessly beaten up over the decades. There are some finish checks on the front and back as well as many dings and light surface scratches. The line in the face of the lower horn is either a light surface crack or a heavy check- when I put a snake light into the guitar, no light emits from this line so it is definitely superficial. The tuners are double-ring, double-line Gibson Deluxes, so they are from 1969 or later and obvious replacements. The good news is that they have the same footprint as the originals if you choose to find a set of period-correct replacements.

We have housed this 225 in a new hardshell case for its protection and safe shipping. The guitar has been detailed, set up and restrung with new 10s. It's ready to go and will make a solid vintage investment for your collection. Please call or email with any questions and as always, we thank you for stopping by!
